Why it's a gem

The setup is bleak, but the tags suggest a story more about rehabilitation and coming of age than horror. They list politics, war and magic next to shoujo and monster boy, so this is a romance with real friction between peoples. The heroine is a calm presence among beasts, and the story is framed as her path to becoming queen.

Expect a slow-building relationship drama more than an action series. The Beast King and the human girl come from sides that distrust each other, and the political setting keeps that tension in view. Synopsis

The King of the Beasts and Demons regularly receives female human sacrifices to eat in order to assert the dominance of his people over the human race. However, for the 99th sacrifice, the human girl brought to the capital, Sariphi, intrigues the Beast King. In fact she isn't afraid of him or any other beast and even accepts her death without begging or crying as she has neither home nor family to return to if she were released.
