Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Why it's a gem
Plenty of long shounen series stretch their material thin. This one has a reputation for the opposite, and its very high score, backed by hundreds of thousands of viewers, shows how well liked it is.
It follows a young boy who sets out on a dangerous career in search of his father, then grows into a wider adventure with travel, martial arts, and surprisingly thoughtful turns. Expect a lighthearted opening that gets darker, with revenge and tragedy running through parts of the story.
The commitment is real at 148 episodes, though it's complete. It's a good fit if you want a big, finished adventure with a lively cast.
