My Melody & Kuromi

Two rival sweets shops, a pastry contest and a cozy stop-motion town built from sugar and felt.

Stop motion is rare in anime, and that alone makes this series worth a look. It stars two characters who run shops across the street from each other in Mariland, one with cakes and the other with Japanese sweets. The cast is almost entirely animals, and the food and restaurant tags suggest a lot of loving attention to what is on the plate.

The tone should be gentle and cozy, in line with its iyashikei and slice of life tags, with a bit of magic and a contest to give the season a shape. There is also a hint of something larger threatening the town, but this reads as a sweet, low-pressure watch rather than a tense one. It fits well for families, fans of the characters, or anyone who likes craft-heavy animation.

It has 12 episodes from WIT STUDIO, released as an ONA in 2025. The community score is 78 out of 100, though only about 5,000 AniList users have listed it, so it is still easy to overlook. If you want something soft, small and handmade, it is worth an evening or two. It streams on Netflix.
