Star Detective Precure!

Why it's a gem

This is the 23rd installment of the long-running Precure series, and the first thing to know is its audience. The tags say kids and primarily child cast, so it is a show made for young viewers, with transformation sequences and fairy companions. Adults who like the franchise will recognize the format, and newcomers can approach it as a family-friendly mahou shoujo mystery.

The twist on the formula is the detective angle. A teenager travels from 2027 back to 1999 and meets a girl who wants to be a great detective. Together they turn into Precures to deal with a group of Phantom Thieves. Time manipulation, amnesia and urban fantasy are all listed among the tags, so expect puzzles and magic mixed together in a lighthearted way.

The length is the main commitment: 51 episodes from Toei Animation, which is the usual shape for the franchise. The 2026 series has a score of 75 out of 100 from around 6,000 AniList users, a modest but positive sign so far. It suits parents looking for something to share, and long-time Precure fans. Crunchyroll and YouTube both carry it.
