The All-devouring Whale: Homecoming

Why it's a gem

Twelve episodes, with the first running a generous 36 minutes, makes this an easy series to finish in a week or so. It is a Chinese fantasy with a light touch, and it opens with a hero who has already lost everything once and has to start again in someone else's life.

The setup blends cultivation fantasy with creature taming: fighters team up with spirit pets and let them do much of the brawling. Because the lead has been reincarnated, the story has a fresh-start energy, with a sect to rebuild, allies to gather and a betrayal to untangle. Action comes first, and the comedy keeps the tone from getting heavy. The cast is mostly adults, so the stakes feel more like a working life than a school tournament.

If you already like cultivation stories and want one that moves along, this is a reasonable next stop. Expect plenty of fights between jokes, and a plot content to be a straightforward quest. Viewers rate it fairly well, though only about fourteen thousand people have logged it, so it has stayed under the radar. You can watch on Bilibili TV or Bilibili, and it is also on YouTube.
